Originally a watercress farm during the war, it later became a nursery growing plants for the owner’s landscaping business. Known as Broadwater Nursery for the artificial lake nearby, it thrived until the devastating drought of 1976 when the owning family joined forces with a local investor to build a garden centre.

If you don't want to be totally ripped off be careful in the coffee shop. A double espresso was £5.20!! A cappuccino, double espresso and a scone was £9.80 and more than 50% of it was for the double espresso. In Costa it costs £3.30 for a cappuccino (with a double shot of coffee) with a LOT of milk. I queried it with one of the staff and she had no answer. They have a great collection of plants but we won’t be going back.
