The Forsythia is one of the most brilliantly coloured of early spring flowering shrubs. It is widely planted and popular because of its free flowering nature and ease of culture – it will grow almost anywhere, is completely hardy and grows to 2 to 3m in height and width. Forsythia x intermedia ‘Spectabilis is the most popular variety, but there are several other excellent hybrids including ‘Lynwood’ and ‘Weekend’. The latter is more compact and 1/3 smaller than other varieties.
