Plant of the week: Boxed bedding

'Box Bedding' is a horticultural term for summer bedding plants (generally annuals) grown in individual celled boxes with numbers of plants from 8, to 40 per box.

The most popular lines include: Petunia (including 'Million Bells' trailing varieties), Impatiens (Busy Lizzy), Begonia, Bacopa and Geranium as well as old favourites such as Marigold, Verbena, Cosmos, Antirrhinums (snap dragons) and Lobelia.

Bedding plants are available in any possible colour and size and with a little care will flower throughout the summer, until the first frosts in October. The ‘care’ bit is pretty straight forward, regular watering and feeding is that is required.

As the chance of a late frost is minimal, now is the time to plant your bedding plants to create that glorious display this the summer.
