Lawn in Gwent

Having a perfectly green lawn all through the year might seem impossible, but if you take the proper steps at the right time of the year, it is very possible to have a beautiful green lawn in your garden. The Garden Centre Guide is the site to visit for all your lawn requirements, as well as any expert advice you might need to achieve the lawn of your dreams.

Instructions

  1. Make the proper start – having a green lawn starts even before you sow the grass seed, by using the right fertiliser when you’re preparing the area for sowing the seed. The fertiliser should have long-term nutrients like phosphate, but not too much nitrogen, as this will be used in a fertiliser at a later stage. Adding this fertiliser before sowing will give your seeds a really good start.
  2. Plan ahead by preparing a lawn fertiliser program – preparing a yearly fertiliser program and sticking to it will make sure that your lawn stays green all through the year. It doesn’t have to be a long and complicated program either. Simply jot down a few notes as a reminder of everything you need to buy, including the type of fertiliser and when to use it at certain times of the year.
  3. Moss and weed control – green lawns are always free of weeds and moss and the way to achieve this is to include in your program that you need to use a weed killer at least twice a year. A 4-in-1 fertiliser at the right time will make your lawn nice and green, keep moss and weeds at bay and also provide a slow-release of nutrients all through the summer. Make sure that the weeds have already appeared for the control to be effective. Avoid using weed killer during the hot summer months, because it could burn your lawn.
  4. Remember the water! – Water is very important if you want to have a lawn that is constantly green. Unless you have a huge property, a built-in watering system isn’t necessary for most parts of the UK. A sprinkler or two and a long enough hose that can reach everywhere in your garden is ideal, Keep a check on your lawn during dry weather. If the grass is starting to curl up, then it’s time to water. Sandy soil will start to dry out after a few days of dry weather and a week or two if the soil in your garden is more like clay or loam.

Always give your lawn a thorough watering, then wait until it starts to get dry before you water again. Avoid shallow, frequent watering as it will cause yellow root systems that dry out fast because of not having access to the nutrients below.

Buy a drought-resistant lawn seed if you know that you won’t be able to water your lawn as often as is necessary, since these seeds are able to survive even lengthy dry spells and will start growing again as soon as the rains start.

Follow the above steps and you too can have a lush and perfectly green lawn all through the year.
