Plant of the Week - Mahonia; Winter Sun
This fine shrub has a more compact habit than some other mahonias. It bears flourishing golden racemes of flowers in winter that are held nearly upright. The foliage sprays are rich, green and jagged; each leaf is composed of paired leaflets. On the erect flowering stalks the foliage is spikily layered. The plant has a strong character and, even in the quiet summer months, its strong lines are a feature against all the gentler foliaged summer shrubs
