Beware of the price of the Christmas trees which the priced aat a different level as to what they charge at the checkout. They said the prices had only just changed , but ???. Staff fairly helpful but its such a big place its often difficult to find someone. The general shops in side are brilliant for browsing but other places offer better prices. Its a coach party heaven so try and get there early . Toilet facilities are ok for disabled but if you need to use the normal facilities they are located up quite a rabbit warren staircase.

My family regularly visit Van Hagues often going more for the experience that with the intention of buying something (although we always do.) Both my children have es[ecially loved the miniature train, pet centre and interactive displays. My 80 year old mother in law from Scotland always wants to vist when she is down. Last year I bought a beautiful statue for my garden, which developed a fault and broke. I thought that Van Hagues might quibble but the staff went to great lengths to order and find me a replacement. As a lifelong customer I would reccomend Van Hagues for families with young children through to the elederly and disabled. There is something for everyone. My main criticism would be about the prices in the cafe. My suggestion would be to have more special offers.

I have been shopping at Van Hage's in Great Amwell for a few years. The Garden Centre has a large selection of gardening items from seeds through to sheds. Lots of different style pots and garden accessories. The household department has lots of nice items such as dinner sets, Cath Kidston and other well known brands. These items are often more expensive than they should be which is a shame. The restaurant has a large selection of food but it is overly expensive, the soup is 50% more expensive than John Lewis. I love strolling around looking at the candles and household items but the price of items is often prohibitive.

My friend and I visited this garden centre last Friday to have lunch, a natter and, if we could afford it, buy some plants. Firstly, the main cafe was closed for refurbishment. We only discovered this when we'd walked all the way to the cafe door. We were directed to the Garden Cafe. What an experience! It was dirty, the young staff were surly and uncommunicative and to cap it all, we had to eat old jacket potatoes that had obviously been reheated with plastic cutlery off paper plates for £5!! Tea out of paper cups does not taste the same! We've since been told that the cups and cutlery had to be disposable because the dishwasher was unavailable. Have they heard of rubber gloves and Fairy? Horrible experience.

This afternoon while on a day’s holiday from work, I took a trip to the Van Hage’s Garden Centre in Ware and experienced some truly poor customer service. After purchasing a handful of pot plants staff refused to let me take the plastic basket out of the store to make it easier for me to carry my plants to the car. I explained that I would return the basket but the basket was simply taken away. No one offered to assist, no one questioned why, I was simply told that this was against company policy and I wasn’t allowed to take the basket out of the store. Quite a surprise considering every other occasion that I’ve shopped there I have done just that. Even though I returned my goods for a refund and even though I spoke to the manager about my experience. I left Van Hage’s today feeling almost humiliated as the same staff stood at the till, gawking at me as I left. It’s up to you where you spend your hard earned cash, I'll never shop there again!
