Indian summer? No chance, say forecasters
Britain is on track for a “fairly typical” wet and breezy autumn, a leading weather forecaster has claimed.
Positive Weather Solutions has said autumn 2011 will be wet with unsettled periods – notably late September and into October – but there will be drier stretches “particularly early and through the second half of the season.
The forecast will dash gardeners’ hopes of an Indian summer after what has turned out to be yet another typically British summer (sunny spells, cloud and showers).
Weather experts believe October will see bands of rain and clearer passages with showers sweep the UK. PWS claims November will feature a “high degree of variability,” too.
Although PWS is expecting autumn temperatures to be “about average or possibly above overall,” early forecasts for December, January and February warn it may be “colder than average”,
PWS is predicting a 38 per cent chance of a white Christmas this year.
