Plant of the week: Camellia

Some experts consider the Camellia to be the queen of flowering shrubs. Unlike the rose it keeps its leaves all year round and needs no pruning. The leaves are oval and glossy and the showy flowers are 2” to 5” across, depending on the variety, and may be single, double, Anemone or Paeony-shaped.

Depending on the variety, they will flower from February to late April and there are even some that flower in the autumn. There are dozens of popular varieties to choose from, too many to mention here.
