Plant of the week: Camellia sasanqua

Camellia sasanqua

Camellia sasanqua is an evergreen shrub grown for it’s magnificent display of large blooms during autumn and early winter. Flowers are usually single, often fragrant and generally pink or white.

They prefer a lime-free soil, are best grown in light shade and need a good, hot summer to flower really well; and when they do, they make a fabulous display that cannot be matched by any other autumn flowering shrub!

‘Sasanquas’ look good in mixed borders and equally well as single specimen in a lawn or container. They are available from all good garden centres during November, but often disappear from sale outside this period.
