Smoke Bush - Cotinus Coggygria

The smoke bush is unmistakable when in flower. In June/July these pale pink inflorescences resembling plumes of smoke - hence the common name. These versatile shrubs will grow to 3m (10') high if left unpruned. There are 2 basic types; green and purple leaved. The 'common' green-leaved variety will give a stunning orange/yellow autumn colour whilst the purple-leaved forms turn a scarlet/red. he smoke bush will tolerate any soil and do best in full sun. Look out for the varieties 'Royal purple', 'Grace' and 'Golden Spirit'.
