Seasonal highlights August20 August 2012
Make the most of the summer holidays. Why not help your children, grandchildren or neighbours kids be creative in their very own corner of the garden. Visit your local garden centre and look out for instant colour and interest plants that they can enjoy growing today. Help them experiment with container gardens – baker’s bread trays work well.
At this time of year your garden should be looking lovely. But if it’s not, don’t worry. Indulge in a little ‘lipstick gardening’ to cheer things up. Late summer perennials – Solidago, Rudbeckia or flowering grasses are all looking great right now. Grow in containers and keep well-watered – no hosepipe bans to worry about!
Beyond the garden, discover the vibrant you this August – do yourself the power of good and get out there. Walk in the woods, on the hills, in your local park – maybe on the beach if you’re near the coast. Whatever the weather - it doesn’t have to be blue skies to enjoy the outdoors and the personal benefits are there, free for the taking.
