It's National Gardening Week11 April 2014
It's National Gardening Week - a time to be out and about celebrating everything to do with gardens and gardening. You'll find inspirational events going on all over the country, with thousands of garden centres, charities and community groups getting stuck in to some green-fingered fun.
The event's organisers, the Royal Horticultural Society, are leading the way with a full programme of family activities, workshops, walks and talks at all four of their gardens. At Hyde Hall in Essex you can go scavenging for natural materials to turn into a woodland collage; or pick up a masterclass in looking after your lawn at Rosemoor in Devon. At Harlow Carr, near Harrogate, you can plant your own sunflower to take home, and at Wisley, in Surrey, they're even holding a daffodil show with over 1000 blooms on display. Don't forget your notebook as you're sure to find a few beauties you covet for your own garden.
Ness Botanic Gardens, near Liverpool, are also joining in the fun with seed-sowing workshops and spring walks, and on Sunday, a panel of experts on hand to solve all your gardening quandaries. For details of these and dozens of other events, go to www.nationalgardeningweek.org.uk.
